Member & Insurance Changes Letter

Thank you for allowing us to be part of your health and wellness journey. We are making some changes and hope you will read through this letter to give you a better understanding as to why these changes will go into effect. 

INSURANCE BENEFITS CHANGING  

Effective December 1, 2018 the YMCA will no longer participate in insurance paid memberships. If you currently are a Tivity-Prime, American Specialty Health – Silver/Active & Fit, Optum Fitness Advantage or Healthways - SilverSneakers® member, we will no longer be accepting those insurance plans. Why? The payment we receive from the insurance provider (we’ve negotiated with them several times), is close to 60% less than what a membership costs. As a nonprofit organization, we cannot sustain those losses with ever increasing operational costs. We understand this may be frustrating or feel like an interruption in your health and wellness routine. Be assured that we are making this change so the YMCA can serve this community for years to come. While the Y will no longer accept these insurance providers, we remain strongly committed to supporting the health and well-being of all of our members. MEMBER RATE CHANGES 

Effective January 1, 2019 existing Sarasota YMCA member rates will be streamlined to the following:
YOUNG INDIVIDUAL (AGE 29 & BELOW) - $19.99
INDIVIDUAL (AGE 30 & OVER) - $39.99
DUAL (2 PEOPLE, ANY AGE, 1 HOUSEHOLD) - $69.99
HOUSEHOLD (2 ADULTS + DEPENDENTS, 1 HOUSEHOLD)  - $89.99 

We believe these rates make the Sarasota YMCA more accessible to all. Household and Dual memberships will enjoy the added benefit of included Child Watch (child care for up to 2 hours). Individual memberships can add Child Watch simply by adding a Young Individual membership to their account (additional $19.99). Your membership is all inclusive: group exercise classes, use of swimming pools, basketball courts, racquetball courts, spin studio, fitness floor, good friends and hot coffee. In addition members receive lower “member rates” for paid programming (camp, CrossFit, Biggest Winner, etc.). The “Buddy Plan” and “Corporate Memberships” will no longer be part of our membership rates. NEW PROGRAMMING

We are excited to announce that new programming is available at the branches.

• Try CrossFit & High Intensity Interval Training (small group training) located at our new Westfield location sarasotaymca.org/stpcrossfit 

• Try a session of Meditation classes – coming soon!   

We offer some of the best group exercise classes in town, featuring over seven world-renowned LES MILLS™ modalities and over 200 weekly classes! BodyPump, Grit, TRX®, aquatics, cycling, yoga and more are included in your membership!

TOWEL SERVICE

Effective November 1, 2018 the YMCA will be removing towel services. See infographic below outlining our effort to reduce our carbon footprint and help keep our Sarasota community beautiful for years to come.

RATES


Why is my rate changing?
We believe that everyone should have access to the YMCA. We did a deep dive of our community demographics and streamlined our membership rate options to best serve Sarasota. Financial assistance “Membership For All”, is available to those in need.

I have a senior membership, that’s not listed as one of the rates. What do I do?
We streamlined our membership options and your senior membership will become an adult individual membership. With your new membership rate, you’ll be saving $7 monthly! You’ll receive the same membership benefits – over 200 (weekly) group exercise classes, aquatics facility, spin room, hot coffee, and friendship!

I have a senior family membership, that’s not listed as one of the rates. What do I do?
We streamlined our membership options and your senior family membership will become a dual membership. With your new membership rate, you’ll be saving $2 monthly! You’ll receive the same membership benefits – over 200 (weekly) group exercise classes, aquatics facility, spin room, hot coffee, and friendship!

I have a buddy senior membership, that’s not listed as one of the rates. What do I do?
We streamlined our membership options and your senior ‘buddy’ membership will become an individual membership. With your new membership rate, your dues will increase by $2.39. You’ll receive the same membership benefits – over 200 (weekly) group exercise classes, aquatics facility, spin room, hot coffee, and friendship!

I have a buddy senior family membership, that’s not listed as one of the rates. What do I do?We streamlined our membership options and your senior ‘buddy’ family membership will become a dual membership. With your new membership rate, your rate will increase by $12.39. We’re happy to discuss financial assistance options (Membership For All program) as we strive for everyone to have the opportunity to be part of our YMCA. You’ll receive the same membership benefits – over 200 (weekly) group exercise classes, aquatics facility, spin room, hot coffee, and friendship!

I have a buddy family membership, that’s not listed as one of the rates. What do I do?
We streamlined our membership options and your ‘buddy’ family membership will become a household membership. With your new membership rate, your rate will increase by $17.99. We’re happy to discuss financial assistance options (Membership For All program) as we strive for everyone to have the opportunity to be part of our YMCA. You’ll receive the same membership benefits – over 200 (weekly) group exercise classes, aquatics facility, spin room, hot coffee, and friendship!

I have a corporate membership, I do see where those rates are listed.
We streamlined our membership options and your corporate membership will become an individual membership. This means that we will no longer have a corporate membership program as our new rate structure provides the opportunity for everyone to afford a membership at the Y. We’re happy to discuss financial assistance options (Membership For All program). You’ll receive the same membership benefits – over 200 (weekly) group exercise classes, aquatics facility, spin room, hot coffee, and friendship!

I have financial assistance; how do I get that transferred?
We’d be happy to help you with that. Please speak to a membership representative for assistance. Will my membership come with child care (watch)? With our streamlined membership options, if you have a dual or household membership, you will receive child care as part of your benefits. If you have an individual membership, you will need to add a young individual membership ($19.99) to utilize child care (watch).


TOWELS

Why do I have to bring my own towel?
In an effort to reduce our carbon footprint, we were astonished at how much water we were using and how much CO2 we were emitting. Annually we were using over 890,000 gallons of water which is enough water to supply 26 households each day for a year, or equivalent to 39 loads of laundry a day. We were emitting 23+ tons of heat-trapping CO2 as well and spending 4,700+ hours annually to launder towels. As a nonprofit organization with a mission to inspire people to reach their full potential, we felt it was our social responsibility to take action. We’re asking everyone to bring their own towel from now on.

Will you continue to have towels in the locker rooms for showers?

NEW (CLOSING) HOURS

Why did the Frank G. Berlin, Sr. YMCA / Evalyn Sadlier Jones YMCA change their closing hours on Friday and Saturday?
We appreciate that at times we make changes that aren't favorable for all our members, and we are sorry that this change in timing is a barrier to your wellness routine. We looked at our membership "scans"/usage for Friday and Saturday evenings and made the decision to make closing times more consistent with the flow of members utilizing the branches during those times.

Why did the Frank G. Berlin, Sr. YMCA / Evalyn Sadlier Jones YMCA change their aquatic hours?
We appreciate that at times we make changes that aren't favorable for all our members, and we are sorry that this change in timing is a barrier to your wellness routine. We looked at our membership "scans"/usage for some evenings and made the decision close aquatics during certain times to be more consistent with the flow of members utilizing the pool during those times.
