Grant awarded to Schoolhouse Link program by the Jacqueline Lewis Schoolhouse Link Fund of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County

A $12,000 grant was provided to the Sarasota YMCA Schoolhouse Link program by the Jacqueline Lewis Schoolhouse Link Fund of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. This grant is to be used specifically for the Schoolhouse Link program to support college starter kits for 10 students at $1,200 each. Students benefitting form these packs will have experienced homelessness some time during the past school year.

For students transitioning to a local college or career training program, these supplies include a laptop with carrying case, flash drives, portable printer, back pack, spiral notebooks, pens, alarm clock, travel umbrella and travel bag. Students leaving the area and going into a dorm setting will need all of the items listed for local students as well as the following housing related items:  

Bed in Bag, mattress pad, lamp, hangers, towel set, laundry bag, laundry pods,  disinfectant spray, disinfectant  wipes, pillows, security vault, shower caddy, hygiene products, and suitcase set.
